A roll-off dumpster is the open-top steel container a truck rolls off its bed and onto your driveway, alley or job site, then hauls away full. Milwaukee Porta Pros rents them in 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard sizes for everything from a basement cleanout on the south side to a full gut renovation or a commercial build. If you are already booking restrooms for the same job, the container usually drops on the same run.
The four standard sizes are 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard. Smaller containers suit dense, heavy debris such as concrete, brick, dirt and roofing tear-off, where you hit the weight limit long before you fill the box. Larger containers suit bulky, light debris such as framing lumber, drywall, siding, cabinetry and household junk. Most single-room remodels land on a 10 yard dumpster rental or a 20 yard dumpster rental. Whole-house cleanouts and multi-trade jobs usually want a 30 yard dumpster rental, and a 40 yard dumpster rental is for large volume, light material. Exact interior dimensions and door configurations vary by container, so check with us before you plan a walk-in load.
Price is driven by four things: container size, how long you keep it, how heavy the load ends up and what you put in it. Weight is the one that surprises people, because a container that looks half empty can still be over tonnage if it is packed with plaster, tile or wet material. Our dumpster rental cost page breaks the pricing structure down, and dumpster weight limits explains how overage is calculated so you can pick a size that keeps you under the cap.

On private property, no. Your own driveway, parking lot or fenced yard is yours to use, subject to the property owner's approval and any HOA rules. Placement in the public right of way is different: a container sitting in the street, the parking lane or across a sidewalk in Milwaukee may require a permit from the City of Milwaukee, and that needs confirming before delivery day rather than after a truck is blocked. The same logic applies to portable toilets, which is why dumpster permit requirements and porta potty permit requirements cover the same ordinance ground from two directions.

Every hauler and every landfill draws a line, and in Wisconsin the banned list includes categories you might not expect. Tires, batteries, appliances holding refrigerant, paint, solvents, fuel, asbestos and electronics generally cannot ride in a general debris container. Loading a prohibited item usually means the load gets rejected or reclassified at the scale, which costs you more than a separate haul would have. Read what cannot go in a dumpster before the first load goes in, and call if you have something borderline.

Most of them. A framing crew needs somewhere to throw offcuts and somewhere to use the toilet, and OSHA 1926.51(c)(1) requires one toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 workers above 20. On construction sites we usually quote the container, a standard porta potty rental and a handwashing station rental together, since OSHA 1926.51(f)(1) requires washing facilities as well. See construction site services for the full bundle, and construction dumpster rental for jobsite-specific containers.
Rental periods run from a few days to a full construction phase. Longer terms cost less per day than repeated short hauls, the same way a monthly porta potty rental beats booking a new weekend unit every Friday. Milwaukee winters matter here too: frozen debris weighs more, and snow and ice in the container adds tonnage you pay for, so covering the box or scheduling a swap before a storm is worth the phone call.
Usually yes, but the driver needs a clear straight approach to place and retrieve the container, plus overhead room free of low branches and utility lines. Tell us about tight alleys, soft lawns or steep aprons when you book.
Placement on boards spreads the load and protects asphalt in warm weather. Ask for boards when you book if the surface is new or sealed.
Yes. On longer jobs a swap is normally faster and cheaper than renting a second container to sit unused.
Ready to book? Send your address, debris type and dates through request a quote and we will size the container against the actual job. If you are unsure whether you need 20 or 30 yards, or whether your placement crosses into the public way, get in touch through contact first and we will work it out before anything is scheduled.
